Introduction to Fabrication
Time to get your hands dirty. Prototypes need to be created, motors have to be mounted, enclosures must be built. Understanding how things are fabricated makes you a better maker. But hardware is hard. You can’t simply copy and paste an object or working device (not yet anyway), fabrication skills and techniques need to be developed and practiced in order to create quality work. You learn to make by doing. In this class you will become familiar and comfortable with all the ITP shop has to offer. We will cover everything from basic hand tools to the beginnings of digital fabrication. You will earn to use the right tool for the job. There will be weekly assignments created to develop your fabrication techniques. There will be in class lectures, demos, and building assignments. Emphasis will be put on good design practices, material choice, and craftsmanship.

This weeks assignment was to fabricate something that incorporated a motor mount. I was pretty slammed the past couple of weeks between finals, projects, and life so I wanted make something that could be done quickly and I could get some much needed sleep. Both sides of the political spectrum accuse the other of propaganda and misinformation. The highest level of politics often weighs on major news outlets, championing Fox News while accusing CNN of spreading Fake News.

This week I continued with my obsession with the buckysphere geometry. It has become my white whale this semester. After experimenting with different ways of forming them I still have not exactly solved this puzzle but this week I got closer.

This weeks assignment was to make five of something. Being an amateur maths enthusiast my obsession with geometric structures and buckminster fuller continues so I wanted to iterate in my geodesic dome from last week but simplified to be a truncated icosahedron or a buckyball. The structures can be found on wolfram alpha.

The assignment for the week was to create a flashlight. The interpretation of the flashlight was open ended so I decided that for me a flashlight must be something portable and used light in some way. School has been pretty hectic lately and in the first half of the semester I haven’t made anything that I was particularly proud of. So for the second half I am working on making things that I enjoy making...
